Shot in the Arm

Let's blog bitches. Let us also dispense with the storytelling and just get our journal on, shall we? Am slowly but surely on the mend, winning this latest grapple with The Beast. The Depression Beast, that is. Small battles were fought and won this morning. Getting out of bed before 10AM. Showering! Teethbrushing, alas no flossing. But! I clothed myself in freshly laundered attire AND! went for brewed beans at my favorite joint while engaging in a finger blackening page through the Post. Victory is mine!

Besides, depression is so very boring, isn't it? Me me me me.. It's much more interesting to focus outward and 'git-r-done', as The Surge has been known to opine. So.. I had a blind date today. With a woman! And we totally made out. Now that I've got yer attention.. we didn't really make out, but there WAS licking and photography involved. Okay, so the licking was me cleaning pizza sauce off my fingers, and the photos were of the Manhattan skyline.. But it WAS a blind date. Blind in that I'd never met her before today and date in that we agreed to meet at a determined location at a specific time.

She is the inspiration for this blog actually. I stumbled upon her blog after The Surge showed me an article about her in the New York Times. She's LIVING THE DREAM. The dream being she's got a two book deal. I know.. such a bitch right? Someone you'd loooove to hate. In fact, she's got haters crawling out of the woodwork, I mean internet. Google her name and dozens of sad fucks dedicate their day to typing sorry missives solely about her! Pathetic, jealous people.. It's too bad she's just about the friendliest, loveliest person you'd ever want to meet. Fiery hair and a smile THIS wide.

So.. we met at an old school pizza joint (red checked tablecloths and swarthy Italian men) underneath the Brooklyn Bridge called Grimaldis.. My new friend was hard to miss in the shoulder to shoulder crowd of pizza goers.. Modern day Rapunzel with a fiery twist.. Flame colored ropes of hair that cascade down her back.. She's a tiny little thing with a giant camera hanging round her neck because she likes to catch life as it passes her by. So really, life ain't passin' her by, is it? She's passing it by and taking souvenirs all along the way.

We ate pizza, licked fingers (our own, you dirty bastards) and took photos. Her hair was the exact color of the autumn foliage setting the shore of the East River on fire.. I tried to capture the moment with a photo I've decied to call Hair On Fire. We'll see if it works out.. So, my dear SK, although you weren't aware, you helped drag me from my slump.

Hey Babe. Glad you had that lunch, I wish I coulda been around.

One thing. Sitting here in a motel room in South Saint Louis and 2 weeks on the road has made me a bit starved in the passion department. Do you think you could maybe take out the bit of your piece where you two weren't licking each others hands and maybe make it like you were?

Just a thought for me....for , you know, .....later.

Hmmm...SK is certainly living A dream. I'm not sure it is THE dream. In certain contexts that makes her a bitch. However, in order to get upset about this, one would have to assume that we all live in a "just world" to begin with. One would have to take that very narrow perspective....

Now, I don't think that we do live in a world where most people get their "just desserts". Quite far from it. So much of life and our own fates is out of our control. Some get book deals, or take over corporations while others do not reach maturity, but die in some third world nowhere place, because of disease of lack of nutrition. If one was to get angry because SK has book deals, one should also logically get FAR MORE angry because of third world injustices, which are perpetuated. After all, neither situation may be fair (according to objective criteria) but some events are more unfair than others.......

Anyways, I'm not an emotional person, or I would wish you success in climbing out of the trench of your depression.

I find the female blogging phenomenon interesting. I'm not sure what it means for feminism -- but looking into what it might mean in that context is my concern.

I guess the whole idea is to try be a suck-cess. I'm kind of distracted by the 30,000 kids in the world who died yesterday from preventable diseases.

Hey, it's the 400th anniversary of Guy Fawkes Day!

To the tune of "Jesus loves you":

Bosses love us
yes they do
For John Howard
tells us so
Trust in them
don't organize
your master's good
all unions lie

Yes, bosses love us
Yes, bosses love us
Yes, bosses love us
The gov'mint tells us so.

Glad to see you coming out of it. SK is pretty great and fun, and she's had her slump too. And me. Total stranger kicked me out of it today by emailing me. You never know what it's going to be.

Here's to staying on the upside.
