Blame It On Milli Vanilli

October 19, 1989

I totally ignored Joey in school today because he has no right! When he does not even know what is going on to accuse me of liking Andy Farrer. He knows I don't even know Andy Farrer. I hate the junior high so bad! I wish I could die! Today has been the most worst day of my life. I hope I get ran over by the bus tomorrow morning. I'm supposed to go home with Oaklee on the bus. Her mom said I could and so did mine. I hope she gets to be my good friend. She's so nice. I hate Joey so bad. Even though deep down inside I know I still like him just as much as I always did. Oh well.

Today was the dance! It was fun even though Joey couldn't go. I was in the middle of everyone dancing most of the time. Me and Angie were dancing and her leg hit mine so she tripped and broke her tailbone. She has to use crutches and everything! It was a wild dance but a fun dance. They had this dumb band play but we didn't like them so we danced to Milli Vanilli and stuff. It was fun!

Do you notice that one of them, possibly the dead one, is in a perpetual second position plie? Except it looks more like a squat to me.

Meanwhile--I know a guy to this day who loves that song so much he closes his eyes and lets the music move him. It'a amazing to watch.

I used to put this cassette in my Walkman, get on my bike, and ride over to the condominium project where the girl I had a crush on lived. I used to pedal around her building in circles, hoping she would walk out. When she finally would, I sped away.

Thanks for the memories.

Did you guys do the "split" dance, where they would stop the song, say "split" and then each person dancing would have to find a new partner? That was nerve-racking to no end in middle school.

It was all about Milli Vanilli and the Roger Rabbit. Do you remember that dance? And who can forget the running man? Good times.

Did you know they were making a movie about Milli Vanilli?? Can't wait to see it!
I think that is cool that you kept a diary of sorts when you were so young, count yourself lucky!

The dead one? Which one is dead? How did he die? Oh the humanity! I always thought the poor boys got a raw deal. They're no bigger tools than Britney or Ashlee Simpson or anyone else.

Oh Milli Vanilli! Such a tragic tale but I did so love their music. Thanks for the flashback! Very cute post.

That was a trip!

I had put the whole Milli Vanilli fiasco behind me until now. Now they've touched me with their cooties - ewwwww...

Didn't one of them kill himself a few years back? I remember debating with my friends which one was hotter, Milli or Vanilli? Ha! I still don't know what their damn name means. Sounds like a yummy ice cream flavor. "I'll have Milli Vanilli on a waffle cone with sprinkles please."

Girl, you know it's true!

March 15, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterBrownie

Oh lord.

Sadly, no one is sporting the "perpetual second position", which made me laugh.

March 15, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterJG

After watching these my brian is a "perpetual second position".

Oh that brings back some memories....

I saw a 3 hour documentary on them a few years ago, and if you guys are wondering....yes it was Rob that died. They think it was a suicide, but they do know that he died of a drug overdose in a hotel in Frankfurt, Germany in 1998 on the night before thier new album's promo tour. This new album was the one with thier real vocals. Remember, it was the lip sync thing that got them found out, that they were just pretty boys. Charles Shaw, John Davis, and Brad Howell were the real vocals that were behind the two models. (yep, that is how they were discovered) But we all loved 'em anyway, they had it going on for a while!

With this post you took me back to a time in my life I don't think about that much, thanks for the trip down memory lane...

p.s. Milli Vanilli is Turkish for "positive energy"

Oh my. Those journal entries and the videos are priceless! Slow dancing to Girl I'm Gonna Miss You may have been the highlight of my junior high career. I found the video on youtube. I am just giggling at visions of my younger self slow dancing with Brad Hansen and then talking about it all night long on the phone with my girlfriends.

Here's the link to that one

Hey, didn't know that this german band was so popular even in the US! Well, we produce great music... hähäm, does anyone know Modern Talking? Hope not...!!

March 15, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterMechthild

is there seriously a three-hour documentary on milli vanilli? three hours?! the us vs. john lennon is 90 minutes long, and milli vanilli gets three hours?! why not go the whole nine and sign ken burns on to do an entire series?

March 15, 2007 | Unregistered Commenterkasey

That is hilarious!!! What is even more hilarious is that my 3 year old is dancing her butt off....

March 15, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterHaley

If it wasn't three hours it sure as hell seemed like it, it seemed to go on forever....but then again, it did delve into the entire history of Rob and Fab, even before and after the Vanilli.

Wasn't trying to sound like a know-it-all, but I know a lot about music...a lot. And when that is on at 3 am and nothing else is....anyhoo, guess I could just blame it on the rain.

Or blame it on the stars, that shine at night. Whatever you do, don't put the blame on you!

p.s. if you want more on John Lennon and the Beatles, check out the Beatles Anthology, 13 is THE comprehensive history of the Beatles. I sat through it twice to soak up all the juicy tidbits.

i am NEVER going to forgive you for getting that song out of my head.

still it beats that last song I couldn't get rid of - Nina Cherry, Buffalo Stance

At least there was no mention of MC Hammer. \

In 1989, I gave my sister the Milli Vanilli cassette for Christmas, and she gave me a 90210 poster. We traded back immediately. I listened to that tape on my yellow waterproof walkman; she still has the poster in her closet at my mom's house.

Wow, I'm old.
