Moments That Make My Life

Henry, in the morning. Smiling, squeezing my arm, periodically kissing me. "I wuv you, Mama." Before he turns his attention back to Diego or Dora or whatever I put on the TV when he first pads into my room so I can buy myself twenty or thirty minutes to wake up. Every now and again he peers over his blankie at me, his face splitting into an epic smile and then blows me another kiss.

Henry, in the car on the way to pre-school, hears me burst into song and very seriously responds, "Mama, please don't ever, ever do that again."

Henry, blowing me kisses from across the room as I drop him off. "Bye, Mama. I wuv you."

Henry, pretending to blow dry my hair with his sister's toy hair dryer. "I wuv your beautiful hair."

Violet saw me crying the other day after I heard that Max's sister died. My best friend and I adopted Max and Sophie together back in 2003 when they were eight-weeks old. I picked up Max first and when I carried him down the driveway he hung over my shoulder as Sophie followed us, yapping for her brother. She wanted him to stay. Or to come with us. A short time after that my friend picked up Sophie and we reunited the happy brother and sister.

Sophie & Max

"Mama, is your heart broken?" Violet wants to know. "It's not broken, it's hurting." I told her.
"It's okay, take a deep breath. Calm down." She uses the words we say to her when she's upset then places her little hand authoritatively on my shoulder. "I can fix it." She puts her hands out and makes robot noises while she mimes putting the pieces of my heart back together. "There! Are you still sad?" Although this sweet ray of sunshine's actions make me want to cry harder I tell her I'm still sad, but feeling much better.

It's moments like this, every day, that make my life. I am so lucky to have these sweet spirits in my life and cannot believe another one is on the way. Thank you all for your congratulations and kind words. We are absolutely thrilled and cannot stop contemplating who we're welcoming into our family in March.

It sounds like you and your husband are raising empathetic, wonderful people. What good kids! I'm so sorry about Sophie. We certainly do love our pets (and our pet's siblings) like family.

Cherish these days, Monica. It is hard to believe, but before you know it they won't talk to you - they won't want to be seen with you - they may even be rude... ah... what awaits!! But I digress. These are delightful vignettes - thanks.

Been doing some research for work on Mommy bloggers. You are listed in the top ten in the US. This post made my heart fill up with warmth. I have a beautiful 15 month old little girl. I have to work full time while nursery get to hang out with her everyday. Time is precious . I wish I had more of it with her!
